Welcome! Following are play-by-play instructions for tonight's live opinion poll during The X Factor.
You'll shortly receive an SMS link to download the app.
DOWNLOADING THE APP
Click on the SMS link: http://xfa.cellre4ctor.com/android
If you have trouble receiving the SMS, type the URL into your browser. It will say:
Download Reactor Android test apps here.
Click on this link. It will download and take you to Download History. Click on Ipsos-Xfactor.apk. When you see, "Do you want to install this application?" Click Yes, and when you see "Application installed", click Open.
STARTING THE APP
The entry logo screen will come up when you click Open. If you clicked Done instead of Open, go back to your Apps menu and find the red and black icon.
The entry screen will fade to a screen saying "Choose a username". Click in the text box to bring up the keyboard, enter a username and click Submit.
When you see, "Would you like to allow the Xperience to see your location?" Click Yes or No, Thanks, depending on your preference.
When you see, "What do you think will happen on tonight's X Factor? Answer these simple questions before the show..." etc. Click OK.
QUESTIONS ABOUT YOU
The first screen will ask, How are you feeling today?
Click on your choice and then click Next.
The second screen will ask, How are you watching X Factor tonight?
Click on your choice and then click Next.
The third screen will say, Who are you watching it with?
Click on one or more choices and then click Next.
The fourth screen will ask, Where are you watching the show?
Click on your screen and then click Next.
FUN QUESTIONS
The first question screen will ask you about the participants.
Click on the participant you choose. The button next to their name should turn green. Then click Next.
The second question screen will ask you about Simon's commentary.
Click on the slider (the light gray vertical button on the green bar) and move it to the left or right until the number below matches your answer. Then click Next. On some phones, you may need to scroll beneath the advertisement to get to the slider.
The third question screen will ask you about Louis's commentary.
Click on the slider as above. Then click Next.
The fourth question screen will ask you about the judges as a group.
Click on the buttons to choose your selection from the three possibilities. The button you chose should show a green light inside. Then click Next.
You will then get a screen saying, "You've successfully submitted your answers! Check your results after the show." Click OK. This will take you to the main screen saver, which should say "Thank you for joining....." Please keep your phone on this screen during the show.
Enjoy! Following are some of the types of messages you may receive during the show.
RATING PERFORMANCES
When the first contestant sings, you will be asked to rate the performance. Highlight the green stars to show your rating (1 to 5 stars; 5 is the best). Click Done when the song is over. You may be asked to do this again for other contestants or guests.
LIVE OPINION TRACKING
Later in the show, you will receive a different rating screen with an "equalizer style" set of red bars. Touch the screen to move the bars up and down from 1 to 10 (10 is the best). This poll is different from the star ratings because you should keep changing the rating during the song as your opinion changes -- let's say a singer starts out great, you rate them at 9, but then they miss a high note and you scroll down to 3.
MESSAGES FROM THE MODERATOR
During the show, our moderator will send screen messages (within the app, not on SMS) to see how you're doing and let you know what is coming next. You can respond by clicking the Comment button. The moderator may select certain comments to send back to the group.
LIVE QUESTIONS
During the show, we may also ask you questions about your opinion of the event or test your X Factor knowledge. Please click and answer these!
END OF SHOW
We will send you the results of the fun questions you answered at the beginning, in a linked series of four screens. We will also announce the winner - which will be chosen based on a combination of predicting the right winner, answering the knowledge question and speed of response.
PHONE MECHANICS
Please make sure your settings are not on Silent - we need your phone to be able to vibrate during the show.
If you try to reinstall the application after installing it once, you may get an "Installation Failed" message - please delete the application and reinstall it.
When installing the application, you may receive one or more messages asking if the application can access certain types of hardware controls. Click Yes. Within the application, you still retain the choice of whether or not to share your location with the server.
